Speeding Pickup Causes 14-Car Pileup in Arlington, TX

According to news reports a speeding pickup truck started a chain reaction accident on I-30 near Cooper Street in Arlington Texas on Wednesday Nov. 17 around 6 p.m. Fourteen vehicles were involved in the pileup and one person was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital and was listed in stable condition. Three other injured persons were also taken to a hospital where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Tiara Richard an Arlington police spokeswoman said that alcohol may have played a role in the accident.

If alcohol contributed to this massive pileup the injured victims could hold an alcohol-serving establishment like a bar or a restaurant civilly liable for their injury if such an establishment was negligent in their care of a patron that may have caused this accident. However if such an entity was or was not involved the driver that started the chain of events resulting in injuries may be liable for simple negligence i.e. reckless driving. In such instances it may take the discoveries of an independent investigation in order to assess all liable parties.

Drunken driving causes such immense damage sadly every day of the year in America. If the liable driver is proven to have been drunk at the time of the accident the driver will hold liability but an alcohol-serving establishment may also be partially liable for the accident depending on the specifics of the accident and Oklahoma dram shop law. In such instances an independent investigation is often necessary in order to see if such a connection existed in this particular accident. As such the victims may consider contacting their respective family attorneys in order to see what their legal options may be in order to bring all liable parties to justice.

Miguel Torres Sr. Flees as Three Children Injured in SUV Accident in Dallas, TX

Three children were injured in an SUV accident that occurred on Thursday Nov. 11 around 10:45 p.m. when a Ford Expedition SUV driven by Miguel Torres Sr. 34 struck a light pole in Dallas Texas in the neighborhood of Pleasant Grove. According to authorities Torres ejected his 5-year-old daughter from the vehicle drove to a nearby park then fled on foot with his 11-month-old daughter leaving his sons 9 and 6 in the car. Shirley Ann Alfaro Arrested for Alleged Drunk Driving Accident That Injured Four Children in Dallas, TX

Shirley Ann Alfaro a 27-year-old Dallas resident was arrested on Sunday Nov. 14 on four counts of intoxication assault for a 6 p.m. crash that injured four children. The accident occurred on Cesar Chavez Boulevard near Grand Avenue in Dallas Texas when Alfaros Chevrolet Suburban struck a concrete pillar. Alfaro did not have a drivers license. Five children from ages 3 to 11 and one adult male Alfaros 33-year-old boyfriend were also in the car at the time of the accident. Four children were taken to Childrens Medical Center Dallas where two were listed in critical condition and two were listed in serious condition. The youngest child was not injured. Police were unsure of the childrens relationship to Alfaro. The adult male in the vehicle was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital and treated for unknown injuries.

Those that choose to drink and drive pose incredible hazards to others on the road and to themselves. Its highly unfortunate that this alleged drunk driver would choose to do so and even more unfortunate that so many children would have been in the vehicle as well. To a vast majority of people its difficult to understand how such a choice could be made which is one of the reasons that Texas dram shop law exists. These laws hold alcohol-serving establishments accountable for their negligent behavior (over-serving a patron or letting a patron drive off while intoxicated) since such inebriated individuals are assumed to not have the reasoning ability to make proper judgments regarding their ability to drive. If such a connection exists in this accident the bar or restaurant that was negligent could be held partially liable for the injurious accident that ensued. The families of the injured children may consider having an independent investigation conducted so that the liable parties can be held accountable.

23,000 Car Seats by Britax Recalled

23000 infant car seats manufactured by Britax have been recalled because of harness clips that are faulty. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission the chest harness clip may break loose and can cause a choking hazard or cuts. Britax Child Safety Inc. received one report of a child putting a broken clip in his mouth and three reports of scratches or cuts. The Chinese-made infant car seats were sold across the country and on the Britax website from June 2009 to October 2010. Those with Britax car seats can call Britax at 1-888-427-4829 for a free repair kit.

Its unfortunate when product recalls are done on products that are manufactured to be used by children or for children. However it sounds as if Britax is being proactive and not waiting until further injury or harm occurs to other children. In some instances when a product causes injury or death a product liability civil suit may have merit in being brought against the manufacturer of the product depending on the specific circumstances of the product causing harm. If you believe that a certain product has caused you or a loved one harm consider contacting your family attorney to see what legal options may be available to you.

Two of the victims remain there in serious condition. An eyewitness reported that Wright was speeding prior to the accident. Its unfortunate that those who would choose to engage in drunk driving must cause such an accident before theyre often made aware of the types of damage they can cause when they choose to drive while drunk. The injured victims in this accident may be able to seek civil action against the liable driver or possibly against any alcohol-serving establishment that may have contributed to this accident depending on the specific laws governing such situations in Washington.
