Hit-and-run accidents are unfortunate for a number of reasons especially when the damage done causes severe physical injury or loss of life. While this accident may be under investigation it often takes an independent investigation to be done in order to find out what really happened. Theres likely surveillance video available from a nearby establishment or a witness may have seen what occurred and simply hasnt come forward yet. Whatever the case may be I hope that this man awakens and can recall who hit him so that justice can be served against the negligent party responsible for this serious injuries.

Annabelle Saldana Critically Injured When Struck By a Vehicle in San Antonio, TX

Annabelle Saldana 28 was critically injured when she was struck by a vehicle on Sunday October 24 in San Antonio Texas. The accident occurred around 3:00 a.m. in the 2200 block of Santa Barbara. Police are currently unsure as to if Saldana was pushed from jumped out of or simply got out of a moving white SUV. According to the driver of the SUV he dropped Saldana off so she could make a phone call. He then drove down the street and made a U-turn only to then find Saldana on the ground. However a witness reported seeing the SUV speeding down the road when the passenger door swung open. Saldana was taken to University Hospital where she was in critical by stable condition.

Accidents involving vehicles can often be difficult to fully assess what happened to cause the accident especially when it may appear to be one persons word against another. Often an independent investigation may be one of the few ways in which the truth of an accident scene can be found out so that all negligent parties can be held accountable. Since initial news reports must often be filed quickly there may have been other factors that also contributed to this accident and often these causes are likely only to be found out in an independent investigation.

Narendra Smith Seriously Injured in White Rock Lake Trail Accident in Dallas, TX

Narendra Smith an elderly man who says that he walked on White Rock Lake trail every day for thirty years was struck by a cyclist on Wednesday October 13. While initial reports were that Smith had no visible injuries he was taken to Baylor hospital as a precautionary measure. Once there Smith was found to have suffered a fractured skull swelling in the brain and bruises and scrapes. Smith spent almost 10 days in the hospital.

We previously related this news article shortly after it occurred and in that posting there was also mention of another accident that happened the same day at White Rock Lake trail in Dallas in which two bikers collided and one had to go to the hospital. These accidents also happened just a few weeks after Lauren Huddleston was killed in an accident along the Katy Trail. Its yet another somber reminder that everyone that uses this popular trail needs to maintain a constant awareness of their surroundings so that these types of unfortunate events can be prevented. Additionally if you believe youve been hurt as a result of a similar accident its recommended that you seek immediate medical attention to make sure that your injuries arent severe or hiding in some way. Many personal injuries can often mask themselves or might take some time to appear. Texas Health Officials Shut Down SanGar Produce and Processing Co. for Contaminated Celery in San Antonio, TX

Texas heath officials ordered SanGar Produce & Processing Co. in San Antonio Texas to shut down after tests concluded that the plant was responsible for contaminated celery that made at least six people six four of whom died this year. The officials also ordered a recall of all of the produce that had passed through SanGar since January 2010. Ten known cases of listerosis in Texas within the last eight months were traced to the plant by the Texas Department of State Health Services. These incidents occurred in Bexar Travis and Hidalgo counties. The health department noted that all ten people who became sick also had serious underlying health problems. According to health officials the produce was sold to schools hospitals and restaurants but likely not to grocery stores.

Health inspectors of the plant found sanitation issues including a condensation leak over a food production area. The health department is still attempting to determine who the possibly contaminated food was sold to and if it may have been used in other products. Customers whove bought SanGar products are encouraged to throw them out. The Food and Drug Administration is also looking into the issue and further recalls may be necessary.

Contaminated food is an unfortunate blight on the food industry in America especially when something as seemingly innocuous as a piece of food can lead to severe illness or even loss of life. It should be known that negligent food producers can be held accountable for their negligent behavior. Furthermore a negligent party still retains liability for an accident even if the victim of their negligence has a serious underlying health problem as mentioned in the news story. In the legal realm this falls under the thin skull rule which serves to hold a negligent party still liable for an injury illness or death even if the liable party was unaware of the victims prior health conditions. If you or someone you know is experiencing food poisoning be sure to see a doctor or get your loved one to see a physician as soon as possible so that the problem doesnt deteriorate.

Roman Mendoza Injured While Providing a Motorcycle Escort for a Funeral in San Antonio, TX

71-year-old Roman Mendoza a Precinct 4 deputy constable was injured on Monday October 18 2010 while providing a motorcycle escort for a funeral procession. The accident occurred when Mendoza stopped traffic at the head of the funeral procession on Loop 410 near McCullough Avenue around 11:20 a.m. A vehicle cut through the procession of cars and went onto the shoulder which caused Mendoza to quickly hit his brakes resulting in his 2000 black Honda motorcycle flipping many times while veering across the highway. Mendoza was then hit by a red Toyota Celica. Mendoza was wearing a helmet and was taken to Methodist Hospital to be treated for back injuries and a right leg injury. The injuries were believed not to have been critical.

It would appear from the details related in this news story that the driver at fault that started this unfortunate series of events chose to disobey a traffic officer in addition to simply being disrespectful to the family and friends of the person in the funeral procession. As such that driver could be held liable for their negligent actions in causing this injurious accident as could the driver of the second car that hit the victim. While there may have been other causes for this accident that have yet to be discovered its important that a thorough investigation be made into the accident so that all liable parties can be held accountable for their negligent actions leading to this accident resulting in injury.

General Motors Recalls 300,000 Chevrolet Impalas

General Motors has issued a recall for 300000 Chevrolet Impalas citing issues with the seat belts in that model of car. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has shown that the seat belts in the front seats can fail to restrain people when a crash occurs. The recall is for Impalas built between 2009 and 2010. So far General Motors is unaware of any deaths or injuries that have occurred as a result of the defective seat belts in these Impalas. General Motors since the beginning of 2010 has recalled over three million vehicles due to various issues. The largest recent recall involved 1.5 million vehicles that had a problem with a heated windshield wiper fluid system that had been causing fires in those vehicles.

A manufacturer of a product that is used by the public must provide for the publics safety when they use that product. When a member of the public is injured as a result of using that product the manufacturer can be held liable for that injury. Being aware of news reports that cover auto recalls and other defective products can prove to be important so that you or a loved one arent hurt by a defective product. However if such an instance happens the manufacturer and any other liable party should be held responsible for their negligence in allowing a defective product to go to market where it could injure someone.

12-year-old Student in Hit and Run Accident in Grand Prairie, TX

A 12-year-old 6th grade student of Arnold Middle School was injured when she was struck by a car driven by Katie Thompson 20 in Grand Prairie Texas on Thursday October 14 2010. The accident occurred at 7:30am as the student was crossing Dickey Road. The cars driver who was not injured in the accident stopped for a moment but then fled the scene. The driver turned herself in a few hours after the accident. Grand Prairie police say that the driver will likely face charges for failing to stop and render aid. The chid suffered non-critical injuries and was treated at Methodist Dallas Medical Center.

Every driver understands that even a momentary lack of attention to the road can lead to an accident. Unfortunately there are some accidents that cause more harm than just a simple fender-bender. While it appears that the driver that caused this accident will face a charge for not stopping to help she may also be held liable for the injuries incurred by the student. This can be accomplished through a civil court case known as a personal injury claim. Should the family of the injured child desire to seek compensation for the childs injury which would likely help with the medical bills theyve already incurred they can contact their family lawyer to inquire about any legal action they may be able to take in that regard.
