On Monday September 20 2-year-old Luke Lesmeister wascritically injured in an accident in Carlsbad NM. The accident occurred at the boy’s home. According to early news reports some largemetal pipes were being unloaded from a truck on the family’s property. Luke was outside when he suddenly ran towardsthe truck and was struck in the head by one of the pipes which weighs hundredsof pounds. Luke was rushed to Covenant Womenand Children’s Hospital in Lubbock TX. He underwent emergency brain surgery to remove a hematoma and he iscurrently on life support as doctors ensure that there is no more internalbleeding.

Eighteen people hurt in charter bus accident near Sanger, TX.
On Saturday September 18 eighteen people were injured in abus accident near Sanger TX. Theaccident involved a charter bus travelling from Dallas to Oklahoma City. According to local news reports the bus wasdriving near Sanger roughly 50 miles north of Dallas when the driver of thebus lost control and crashed into a concrete barrier. The bus driver reports that another vehicleswerved in front of him causing him to lose control of the bus. The bus crashed into a highway median andnumerous people were thrown from the side windows. Thirty-three people were on the bus when itcrashed and eighteen of them were taken to local hospitals for treatment. One person was listed in seriouscondition. Hospitals in the area did notrelease the names or conditions of the victims. Police are still investigating the accident.
Proposed Laws Would Increase Criminal Penalties in Texas Drunk Driver Accidents
On February 9th 2009 habitual drunk driver Stewart Lee Richardson was involved in a drunk driver accident when he crashed his pickup truck into a Honda Accord sitting at a red light. In the back seat of the Accord strapped into his child safety seat was 2-year-old Abdallah Khader. The collision crushed Khader and destroyed approximately 80% of his brain. Stewart Richardson had a BAC of 0.25% at the time and had already been convicted of seven previous DUIs in at least four states. 2-year-old Abdallah Khaders story prompted state Representative Chris Turner to propose two new pieces of legislation (called Abdallahs Laws) to strengthen penalties for DWI offenders especially those who cause severe brain injury. Another part of the proposal would help clarify confusion in current Texas law on how to treat DWI convictions that occurred in another state. Someone should have stopped this man the first time said the boys mother Loubna Elharazin. The system failed all of us when it comes to DWIs.
Two girls hurt in reckless driving incident in Tyler, TX.
On Wednesday September 15 two people were injured inan accident in Tyler TX. The victimswere identified as 15-year-old Chelsea Rowland and 15-year-old JessicaGodfrey. The accident happened at ashopping center parking lot on South Broadway. According to local news reports a 16-year-old driver pulled into theparking lot in a pickup truck while pulling a small trailer carrying anATV. Godfrey and Rowland were in theparking lot and asked to ride on the ATV while the driver drove around theparking lot. According to witnesses thedriver of the pickup truck took a sharp turn at a high rate of speed and astrap holding down the ATV broke. Rowland and Godfrey were thrown from the trailer and the ATV landed ontop of Rowland. Godfrey was notseriously injured though Rowland did suffer an internal injury. She was taken to East Texas Medical Centerfor treatment. The accident remainsunder investigation.
Andrzej Grela hurt when his tanker truck crashes in Dearborn County, IN.
On Friday September 3 a tanker truck accident inDearborn County IN seriously injured the truck’s driver 29-year-old AndrzejGrela. When the accident happened Grelawas travelling east on Interstate 74 at roughly 7:30 a.m. through aconstruction zone. Grela’s tanker wasfull of a flammable toxic chemical. Grela reports that when the accident happened the ground over which hewas driving was very uneven. This causedthe chemical in his tank to slosh around changing the weight distribution ofhis vehicle very rapidly. This caused him to lose control crash into a concretebarrier and the vehicle overturned. Grela suffered serious head trauma in the accident and was rushed to ahospital in Ohio for treatment. Hiscurrent condition was not immediately available. The accident remains under investigation.
Two bystanders injured when big rig truck crashes in power pole in Falcon Heights, MN.
On Tuesday August 31 a semi truck accident in FalconHeights MN left two people injured. Theincident happened as the big rig truck was travelling north on North WinstonStreet. Early reports about the accidentstate that the driver of the big rig truck was turning right onto Como Avenuewhen he allegedly struck a power pole with the right side of his trailer. The power pole tipped over causing connectedpower lines to snap. One of the powerlines fell on 32-year-old Spenser Jackson who was sitting in a lawn chairclose to the accident. Another powerline fell on 26-year-old Brady Berger who was walking nearby. Both men were injured and rushed to RegionsHospital for treatment. The driver ofthe truck has been charged with inattentive driving and may face additionalcharges upon conclusion of the investigation.
Seven men injured in construction site blast in Independence County, AR.
On Thursday September 9 a workplace accident leftseven construction workers injured in Independence County AR. The accident involved a construction crewfrom Texas and it occurred in an underground tunnel under the BatesvilleMunicipal Golf Course. Early reportsabout the accident indicate that the workers were digging a tunnel for a newwastewater treatment facility when one of the workers allegedly hit a blastcap and caused the blast. However authoritiesstate that these conclusions are based on a preliminary investigation and thatthey cannot state with certainty what happened until the investigationconcludes. As of Friday two workerswere still in the hospital: 29-year-old Fransico Ramos and 29-year-old FroncixoPuenta. They underwent surgery and areexpected to fully recover from their injuries.

A Sunday afternoon boat collision on Lake Lewisville has left 3 adults and 8 children injured. Authorities say that there were 6 people on each boat representing 3 Garland Texas families. Injuries ranges from minor cuts and bruises to a severe head injury. The most seriously hurt 10-year-old Jihad Salem underwent head surgery Sunday evening. The boats had been rented at Just For Fun at the Pier 121 Marina.

On Thursday September 9 one person was hurt in atwo-vehicle accident in Dallas TX. Thecrash happened on Colorado Boulevard. According to early news reports about the crash a Volkswagon SUV wastravelling on Colorado Boulevard when the driver of a Nissan SUV allegedly rana stop sign entering Colorado Boulevard and crashing into the side of theVolkswagon SUV. The Volkswagon rolledover and the driver was injured in the crash. The driver was taken to a local hospital but the driver’s name andcondition have not yet been released. Police are still investigating the accident. No word yet on any charges.
Drunk driver injures woman in wrong-way crash in Dallas, TX.
On Friday September 10 a 26-year-old woman wasinjured in a traffic accident in Dallas TX. The accident happened on northbound Stemmons Freeway at approximately2:45 a.m. According to local newsstories a drunk drove approximately 8 miles in the wrong direction on StemmonsFreeway before crashing head-on with another vehicle close to Market CenterBoulevard. Police state that the driverwas travelling at roughly 70 miles per hour. The woman was injured and taken to a nearby hospital but thankfullyher injuries do not appear to be life-threatening. Her name was not immediately available. The drunk driver was injured and is facingnumerous charges.
