According to recent news reports automaker Mercedes-Benz has recalled 137000 M-Class SUVs due to a possible cruise control issue. In affected cars the cruise control may not immediately shut off when the brake is applied. Mercedes-Benz sent a letter to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on March 31 denoting the problem that affects 2000 to 2002 model year M-Class SUVs and 2000 to 2004 model year M-Class AMG SUVs. Cruise control can however still be disabled by using the controls on the steering wheel. The official recall will likely begin in September. Affected owners can contact Mercedes-Benz at 1-800-367-6372 for more information.

While no reports of injury have made the news its easy to see how a failure to cancel cruise control by pressing a brake may lead to an accident especially if the driver is unaware of the possible issue. If your car may be affected by this recall take it into the dealership to make sure whether or not your vehicle is affected.
