15 Uvalde Junior High Students Injured in Head-On Crash in Boerne, TX

Fifteen Uvalde junior high school students were injured on Tuesday October 26 when the bus they were riding in was struck head-on by a black Nissan. The accident occurred in around 4 p.m. outside of Boerne Texas. According to Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Deon Cockrell the Nissan was traveling westbound on Texas 46 and drifted across the center line crashing into the eastbound Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District bus. The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the Scene of the Accident. The cause for the drifting of the car has yet to be determined. Of the 27 middle school students in the bus 15 sustained minor injuries and were taken to Methodist Boerne Emergency Center. The bus driver was not injured and according to Donna Crawford the general manger of Durham School Services the driver had worked for the district for four years and had never had an accident or even a traffic ticket.

According to the news report the students suffered only minor injuries; however some injuries like soft tissue injuries can often take time to develop. And judging by the severity of the wreck this could be a possibility. In some instances seemingly innocuous injuries could be covering up other more harmful injuries. As such I hope that these children have received and will continue to receive proper medical care such that their injuries do not worsen. Additionally since the cause of the accident has yet to be assessed knowing who the liable party or parties are is impossible to tell. However even once the police have completed their investigation the family members of the injured children may desire to seek an independent investigation into the accident scene in order to ensure that all liable parties are held accountable. Furthermore depending on the specific circumstances of the accident the family of the driver that lost his life may have some legal recourse if another negligent party was responsible for the accident such as the manufacturer of faulty brakes. Again it often takes an independent investigation to be done in order for the truth of the accident to be known. As such the parties involved in this unfortunate accident can contact their respective family attorneys so that such an investigation can be done.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
