Port Lavaca, TX — Three people were killed and two were injured on Monday (March 18, 2013) after a fatal two-car accident on Highway 185. According to the news reports, Lloyd Skalak, 76, and Barbara Skalak, 64, were driving north on Highway 185 near the Ineos Nitrile plant at about 1:51 p.m. in a white Ford King Ranch heavy-duty pickup truck.
A southbound Honda Pilot swerved into oncoming traffic for unknown reasons and crashed into the Skalak’s truck in a head-on accident. The impact caused the Honda Pilot to ignite and catch fire, killing three people inside. Both Lloyd and Barbara were taken to Citizen Medical Center by responding EMS workers. Their injuries were not deemed life-threatening.
The identities of the deceased victims in the Honda have not been released, but an investigation is underway. Texas DPS troopers said that the Honda was registered to a Port Lavaca address.
