Stevens Point, WI — One man was injured in an accident with a semi-truck that occurred on Monday, December 14, around 5:15 a.m. near the intersection of U.S. 10 and County Road J.
According to police, a car was heading east on Highway 10 when he allegedly lost control of the car, crossed over the median and hit a semi-truck that was heading west.
The driver of the car was trapped in the vehicle, which caught fire after the accident. An off-duty police officer used a portable fire extinguisher to put out flames before emergency responders arrived. The driver was extricated and rushed to Ministry Saint Michael’s Hospital in Stevens Point.
Police are still investigating, but believe excessive speed and wet roads were factors in the incident.
