Westfield, MA — 21-year-old Sean Bienvenue lost his hand in an accident that occurred at a butcher shop on Friday night, November 27, at North Elm Butcher Block in Westfield.
According to authorities, Bienvenue’s clothing pulled him into the machine as he was feeding meat through a grinder. The machine shut off automatically after his hand was stuck, and emergency responders had to transport Bienvenue to the hospital along with grinder.
Emergency personnel at Baystate Hospital spent six hours removing the grinder from the victim’s arm, but he had to have his hand amputated. Apparently, Bienvenue was alert the entire operation. It is not clear if OSHA will be investigating this incident.
