Yerington, NV — Nearly two weeks ago, two people from Yerington were injured on Sunday, September 6, after a suspected drunk driving accident on State Route 339. They were identified as Edith Nance, who was critically hurt, and as Edward Wedlake, who was less seriously harmed.
The driver who caused the accident was identified as 45-year old Pete Gonzales, from Yerington as well, and he now faces charges.
Police said that Gonzales was the driver of a white Crown Victoria and that both Edith Nance and Edward Wedlake were passengers in the car. He had been driving south along State Route 339 that morning around 11:00 a.m. when he lost control near mile marker 9 and swerved off the highway.
His car then flipped over and ejected Edith Nance, who was apparently the only person not wearing a seat belt. She was badly injured and rushed to a hospital, where they said she was in critical condition.
Both Wedlake and Gonzalez had been wearing their seat belts and, as a result, were less seriously injured. However, the police said that Gonzales was suspected of being under the influence and also said that he had an open container of alcohol in his car at the time.
