Greencastle, IN — There was an accident along U.S. Highway 231, just south of Greencastle, this past Wednesday that involved a white and blue dump truck turning over. The driver, 54-year old James Manuel, was injured and taken to a hospital, but wasn’t in a life-threatening condition.
This happened before 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning, August 19, 2015, just north of U.S. Highway 40.
It appears that Manuel was headed north on U.S. 231 in his dump truck when his truck suddenly lost control and veered off to the side. The truck then crashed into a treeline and flipped over at least once, landing on the driver’s side back in the middle of the highway.
Manuel was ejected from the truck during the accident and was taken to a hospital to be treated for broken bones and other injuries. However, the authorities said that he was in good condition for the severity of the accident.
The cause of the accident isn’t clear yet.
Update: James Manuel was driving for McGuire Excavating & Trucking, a company out of Terre Haute. The DOT’s records reflect a handful of vehicle maintenance violations for them, but nothing egregious.
