Semi-Truck Driver Injured after Rollover Accident on I-75 in Mt. Vernon, KY

Mt. Vernon, KY — Earlier this weekend, there was an accident reported on I-75 in the Mt. Vernon area that left a truck driver injured. The news reports didn’t mention many details, but said that a truck driver was harmed after his white semi-truck lost control on I-75 on Sunday morning (March 29, 2015) and swerved off the side of the road.
The driver was injured and had to be cut out of the cab through the roof, the firefighter who responded to the scene said. The man in the truck was stuck for about 1 hour while he was being rescued and he had to be taken to a hospital via medical helicopter.
At the last update, the trucker’s name still hadn’t been released, but he is apparently in better condition.
The news showed a photo of what appears to be a relatively intact semi cab, which means that this accident could’ve been much worse. Many times, semi-truck cabs aren’t built with much integrity or strength, meaning that truckers are susceptible to entrapment and serious injuries (or death) if they get into an accident where trauma is done to the cab — like a rollover.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
