James Edgar Injured with Student after School Bus & Semi-Truck Accident in Canton, GA

Canton, GA — At the intersection of Cumming Highway and Hightower Road in Far East Canton, there was an accident on Wednesday of this week between a school bus and a semi-truck. The school bus driver, 75-year old James Edgar, was injured along with an 11-year old student on his bus.

Police said that Edgar and the student had been driving west along Cumming Highway on Wednesday morning (January 7, 2015) when they came upon the T-intersection with Hightower Road/Highway 369.

At the intersection, a white and blue semi-truck was waiting to make a turn onto Cumming Highway. Instead of yielding, however, the semi-truck turned onto the highway and into the path of the school bus. The two vehicles collided and the bus suffered front-end damage.

James Edgar was taken to a hospital for a hand injury and the 11-year old student o his bus was also taken to a doctor for an evaluation.

The semi-truck driver was identified as Jose Alfaro, 46, and it’s not clear if he’ll face any charges for the accident.

Commentary:

I hope the trucking company that employed this driver does the right thing and makes sure to take responsibility for the accident. At the end of the day, employers are responsible for their employees in almost every way, even when they make a mistake that results in another persons’s injuries. I, for one, am left wondering why the truck ran the stop sign in the first place. The road isn’t particularly curvy in that area, so the trucker should have been able to see the bus in plenty of time.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
