According to local news reports, Beaumont Police Officer Ronald Patton was injured in an accident along Interstate 10 that involved a semi-truck losing a load of tires. The reports said that a semi-truck was westbound along I-10 at approximately 2:00 p.m. on September 28, 2012 when the doors to its trailer flung open. Several tires fell out into the roadway, causing traffic to slow down.
Scene of the Accident
Patton was on the scene, helping to remove the tires from the road, when a Mazda SUV was rear-ended, due to the slowed traffic. The Mazda was sent forward and struck Patton, leaving him injured. He was taken to a hospital and treated for nonfatal injuries. The semi-truck did not stop initially, but later returned to help with the spilled tires. Police did not say what caused the semi-truck’s trailer doors to become unsecured.
