Commentary:
With this particular accident, I’m seriously curious how a fire broke out, and where it started. On the one hand, if the fire started after the truck’s fuel tanks (mounted on the side of the passenger compartment below the door) ruptured, or if if was the tanker itself that ruptured. If it was the truck’s gas tank, then could a simple steel cage around the gas tank have prevented the tank from getting punctured? Believe it or not, these types of fires are extremely common, and could mean that the manufacturer of the truck may bear some of the liability. On the other hand, if the tanker ruptured and caused the fire, the manufacturer of the tanker could be in a difficult spot for the same reasons. I find it hard to believe that in this day and age, we can not design or build a truck to not burst into flames in an accident.
