Lexington, KY — An 18-wheeler accident took the life of one woman and sent the man she was traveling with to the hospital in Lexington, Kentucky, on Saturday, August 30, 2014. The accident took place on Athens Boonesboro Road, around two in the morning.
According to local officials, a car that is believed to have been speeding was traveling down Athens Boonesboro Road when it collided with an 18-wheeler while it was in the process of turning onto Blue Sky Parkway.
The driver was thrown 30 feet from the car, and the passenger has been placed in Intensive Car in University of Kentucky Hospital. Their names have not been released.
Neither were wearing seat belts.
Although police aren’t saying that alcohol was the cause of the accident, alcohol was found in the trunk of the car. Some of the alcohol was missing, but police were quick to point out that the accident could have caused the bottle to leak.
Standard toxicology tests will be performed.
