New Orleans, LA — The driver of a tanker truck was injured after her truck overturned and exploded in New Orleans, Louisiana. The accident took place at the intersection of Interstate 10 and Interstate 510 on Tuesday, August 26, 2014.
According to local officials, the driver of the truck, a 24-year old woman, was merging onto I-10 and tried to avoid hitting another vehicle. It was then that the truck overturned. The driver, who hasn’t been named, was taken toa local hospital and is reportedly in stable condition.
Witnesses report hearing a loud boom when the explosion occurred. Others reported seeing smoke as far as ten miles away. The truck was carrying 8,600 gallons of fuel and hazmat teams were brought in to help clean up the mess.
The accident is still being investigated.
