Pioglitazone hydrochloride otherwise known as Actos is used to treat type two diabetes. Although the new generic form of Actos will be more affordable to consumers there are still several side effects that are concerning. Similar to the non-generic version of Actos there is the possibility of two to three times the risk of bladder cancer and an increased risk of heart failure.
Similar drugs such as Avandia have been banned in Europe due to the increased likelihood of cardiovascular disease and Rezulin has been banned completely because of its link to hepatitis. Several lawsuits have been filed because consumers who developed bladder cancer from taking Actos argue they were not adequately warned of the potential risks.
