Commentary
Reports say that representatives from the NTSB are on their way and will be handling the investigation. The good news is that the NTSB is very good at what it does. The bad news is that it’s not uncommon for an NTSB investigation to take months to complete. What’s worse is that these investigations can sometimes take longer than a states statute of limitations for aviation accidents. It varies, but some states require that you file a claim against aviation authorities within only a few months.
In these cases, a private investigation is always going to be advisable. I’ve run several in my time as an attorney, and have always been able to get my clients the information they need, and in a timely fashion. Whenever one’s entire ability to seek restitution is at stake, it’s best not to take any chances.
