UPDATE: Fengling Wu Killed in Tractor-Trailer Accident on Highway 283 in Briggs, Texas

BRIGGS, TX — One woman has died following a collision between a vehicle and a tractor-trailer in Briggs, Texas on Wednesday, May 28th, 2014, according to a news report from the River Cities Tribune.

Authorities representing the Texas Department of Transportation have said that they have reason to believe that 36-year-old Fengling Wu was killed when the Nissan she was driving collided with a tractor-trailer while turning onto Highway 183 around 3:40 in the afternoon Wednesday.

Scene of the Accident

Emergency responders pronounced Fengling Wu dead when they arrived on the scene. The driver of the tractor-trailer was immediately unhurt after the collision.

Department of Public Safety personnel are investigating the accident at this time.

Commentary:

If this vehicle was turning as the news article indicates, I’d be very interested to see both the layout of the road where the accident happened, as well as the GPS tracking information in the truck. I’m interested in the layout of the road to see if the turn was blind to either driver, if they were driving into the sun, and to determine which of the two vehicles had the right-of-way. Furthermore, if the truck was speeding, the victim may have assumed there was ample room to successfully turn when there was not. We’ve all turned across traffic, only to look in our rear-view mirrors to learn that we have been narrowly missed by a speeding car, and only a few seconds and feet kept us from collision. Others may not be as lucky.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
