One Injured in Tractor-Trailer Accident on Jacob Tome Highway in Port Deposit, Maryland

PORT DEPOSIT, MD — One man was hurt in a crash with a tractor-trailer that was reported in Port Deposit, Maryland on Wednesday, April 30th, 2014, according to a news article from Cecil Daily.

Police with details from the crash investigation believe an as-of-yet unidentified man was hurt when the pickup truck he was driving is thought to have crossed into the lanes of oncoming traffic when it collided with a tractor-trailer while driving on the Jacob Tome Highway.

Scene of the Accident

One person was taken by EMS to a nearby hospital with unspecified injuries after the accident. The driver of the tractor-trailer refused medical treatment after the accident.

Officials from the Maryland State Police were helping local authorities with the crash investigation.

Commentary:

People who read this article are surely going to blame the driver, but in my experience these articles on accidents are inaccurate. Why is this? Because most of these accident summaries are drafted off of police reports, which are written by police officers and not accident investigators. Why is this important? Because the officers at the scene are juggling taking a police report, managing injured victims, all while clearing the road for traffic. Needless to say, many of the details can be lost in this confusion, which is why most police reports that come into play with my cases are found to be incomplete, or altogether incorrect. Independent investigation can only add to the evidence, and work to correct potentially inaccurate information taken down at the scene.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
