ABILENE, TX — Three people were injured in a serious dump truck collision that took place in Abilene, Texas on Wednesday, April 30th, 2014, according to a news report from KTXS.
Authorities have said that they have reason to believe that three people were hurt when the vehicle they were in collided with the rear of a dump truck while driving on Interstate 20 near the intersection with Fulwiler Road sometime Wednesday afternoon.
Scene of the Accident
Two people and an infant in the vehicle were taken by EMS personnel to a nearby hospital for the treatment of their injuries. The driver of the dump truck was immediately unhurt after the accident.

Commentary:
I always try to explain to people that yes, for the most part rear-end accidents tend to be the fault of the rear driver, but this is not always the case. Tractor-trailers and other commercial vehicles that are comprised of a passenger compartment and a rear trailer have cables that run from the pedals to the brake lights affixed to the rear trailer. If these cables are in any way damaged, connected improperly, or faulty the brake lights may not have lit up properly before the accident. If this turns out to be the case whoever is responsible for the upkeep of the truck would more than likely face some liability for the accident.
