Commentary:
We do not really know from the news article where the fire originated, but on the off chance it started in the SUV, the manufacturer could be liable for some of the damages. Why? Well cars on the road today are manufactured with crash survivability in mind, and whenever a fire breaks out after a collision it’s probably a safe bet that something malfunctioned. Car manufacturers issue recalls all the time. You hear it on the news and on the radio somewhat frequently, and particularly large recalls are almost always headline news. Things like the GM coverup, and the Toyota accelerators are all stories we are familiar with. The only problem with manufacturer recalls is that accidents have to happen before the automaker takes notice.
