One Killed, Two Injured in Tractor-Trailer Accident on Highway 290 at Grand Parkway in Houston, Texas

HOUSTON, TX — A child has died after a chain-reaction accident involving a tractor-trailer that happened in Houston, Texas on Friday, April 25th, 2014, according to the news report from KTRK.

Authorities have said that they believe a child was killed, a pregnant woman and another child were hurt when a tractor-trailer and three other vehicles collided for reasons currently unclear to accident investigators while driving on Highway 290 around 5:40 Friday evening.

Scene of the Accident

One child was pronounced dead on the scene while several other motorists were taken to a nearby hospital with unspecified injuries.

The investigation is being handled by officials from the Houston Police Department.

Commentary:

Accidents where multiple vehicles are involved can be difficult to manage, and even harder to determine who is responsible. Comparative fault is a method devised to determine the degree of liability each person is responsible for after an accident, which can be especially helpful in cases where multiple vehicles have collided, and details can become muddled in the ensuing investigation. Many people do not understand that even if they are found to be partially at fault for an accident, they may still be owed damages or reparations, which is why these types of accidents are always worth a closer look to all those involved.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
