UPDATE: Gurpreet Kailey Killed in Tractor-Trailer Accident in Franklin County, Missouri

FRANKLIN COUNTY, MO — One person was ejected and killed in a tractor-trailer accident that happened in Franklin County, Missouri on Sunday, April 20th, 201, according to a report from My Sullivan News.

Investigators currently believe that Gurpreet Kailey was killed when the tractor-trailer he was a passenger in crashed after the driver is thought to have attempted to avoid a wrong-way driver while driving on Interstate 44 at around 5:40 Sunday morning.

Scene of the Accident

Gurpreet Kailey is believed to have been sleeping in the passenger compartment and was ejected from the truck before it landed on top of him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was identified in the report as Virkram Shah, who was taken to Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital.

Missouri State Police are still investigating the accident.

Commentary:

I’m not trying to pin this accident on the driver, but whenever somebody makes a dubious, unsupported claim about an external force that cannot be pinned down, I cannot help but feel skeptical. I’ve had drivers claim a newspaper flew into their face while they were driving, only to find out later that the driver was distracted on his phone and drove off the road. Given that the passenger was sleeping in the rear compartment, and the early time of the accident, is it really outside the realm of possibility that the driver of this truck simply dozed off behind the wheel before the accident?

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
