ONEILL, NE — One person died after a fiery head-on collision that happened in O’Neill, Nebraska on Wednesday, April 17th, 2014, according to a report from KTIV.
Authorities tasked with leading the crash investigation have said that they have reason to believe one person was killed when the vehicle they were driving skidded across the median and collided head-on with a tractor-trailer that was driving eastbound on Highway 20 around 10:00 Wednesday morning.

Emergency response personnel pronounced the driver of the vehicle dead on the scene by emergency responders when they arrived.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was taken to a nearby hospital for the treatment of unspecified injuries.
Officials from the Nebraska State Police are handling the crash investigation.
Commentary:
The fact that the news report mentioned the fact that the car erupted into flames after the accident, and if this is accurate, there may have been a serious defect in the vehicle that made the accident worse than it needed to be. Cars are with many safety features, and one of these is supposed to prevent or contain fires should one break out. If a defect in the cars design led to the fire, the manufacturer may be liable for at least some of the accident.
