Commentary
The news reports I’ve read about this accident don’t make much mention of police trying to figure out why the victim collided with the 18-wheeler. Unfortunately, that question isn’t the most important to them in cases like these. When police investigate a crime, they’re usually trying to find out who’s at fault. In this case, it would seem to be the victim. In similar cases I’ve been involved in over the years, the question on my mind is who’s liable. And it’s important to remember that one doesn’t always have much to do with the other. Another downside to relying completely on a police investigation is the amount of time they sometimes take to be completed. That can be a huge detriment to a victim’s family, especially when discovering who’s liable in an accident often relies on finding evidence, which is more often than not a very time sensitive thing.
