Commentary:
Keep in mind that the news article is pretty sparse on details, based on the news summary there are a few questions I have about the accident. If authorities discover that the tractor-trailer had crossed over into oncoming traffic, serious questions need to be answered about what may have happened. Luckily most tractor-trailers on the road these days are outfitted with a number of safety monitoring devices, including ECM’s (electronic control module) that tracks location and speed data, as well as some other smaller details. We have seen one case where a tractor-trailer driver was looking at his phone when he struck the back of a car, killing a driver, and the only way we would have known he was distracted was by the driver-facing camera mounted in the truck.
