Commentary:
While accident investigators are sorting out the real facts, I feel like I need to say a few things about how this accident appears at first glance. In my experience handling truck accidents like this one, a lot of people can be quick to blame the truck driver – and while there is a chance this accident was caused by driver inattention, there may be more going on than meets the eye. The news report have the time of the accident at around five in the morning. It would be a good idea to check for exhaustion and how much driving he had been doing in the past days. Trucking companies sometimes push drivers to go beyond safe limits, and it is very common for truckers to fall asleep behind the wheel and wreak havoc on the road. Any good lawyer will tell you that trucking companies need to pay for damages that happen when truckers are worked too hard.
