In the aftermath of a suspected drunk driving that leads to the injury of another person an independent investigation may be pursued that can look into the events possibly leading up to such an unfortunate accident. Due to dram shop laws in most states there can be other parties that may be held civilly liable for such an accident in addition to the alleged drunk driver. If a bar or restaurant over-serves alcohol to a person such that they become intoxicated and then cause an injury accident or fatal accident the alcohol-serving establishment may be held partially liable for the results of the accident as a proximate cause to the wreck. However establishing that such a chain of events occurred often requires the careful work of an independent investigation so that each and every liable party is correctly identified and held properly accountable
