Strollers Recalled by Kolcraft Due to Amputation Hazard
According to official reports Kolcraft announced that it will recall 36000 units of a particular model of strollers. Kolcraft cited fingertip amputation and laceration hazards as the reason for the recall. The models affected are the Contour Options: ZL002 ZZL005 ZL008 ZL015 and ZL018.
The company allegedly acknowledged five instances of injury regarding the Contour Options strollers. Three childrens fingertips were reportedly amputated when they were caught in an exposed hinge that is part of the strollers folding mechanism. Two other adults also reported laceration injuries to their fingers. Affected consumers may return their product for a repair kit.
Commentary
Because injuries have occurred readers should quickly have the repair done. Many injuries resulting from a product typically do not reach the threshold necessary to justify the high costs of a lawsuit. However the company-cited possibility of an amputation certainly meets that threshold. If an injury does occur severe enough for a victim to consider legal action a third party investigation should be used to determine a victims options.
