Woman Injured in San Antonio, TX H-E-B 18-Wheeler Accident

San Antonio, TX — A woman was seriously injured after her car hit the side of an H-E-B truck on Wednesday, December 16, around 2:30 a.m. in the 10800 block of Potranco Road.

According to police, the woman was driving on Potranco Road when she hit the side of a truck that was making a right turn onto Potranco Road. Her car allegedly hit the 18-wheeler’s gas tank, which caused fuel to spill on the road. Hazmat crews were called to clean up the spill.

The woman was rushed to University Hospital with serious injuries, but she is expected to recover. Police are still investigating the accident.

Commentary:

The details of this accident aren’t clear, and this incident needs to be closely investigated before simply placing the blame on the victim.

For example, it isn’t clear if the accident happened at a traffic light, and if it did, there are a couple of questions to consider; did the woman run a red light, or did the 18-wheeler fail to yield to oncoming traffic?

If the driver of the 18-wheeler failed to yield to oncoming traffic, he or she could be liable for injuries the woman suffered. It’s very difficult to see the side of an 18-wheeler at night, because often, the sides of these vehicles only have small reflectors and no lights.

Again, we don’t know what happened in this accident, which is why an investigation is so important. If there was any negligence involved, the injured party deserves justice for her suffering.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
