Johnson County, IN — The driver of a passenger car who was struck by a dump truck was critically injured in an accident that occurred on December 10 in the southbound lanes of I-65.
According to Indiana State Police, a dump truck was heading south on I-65 when he failed to slow for a construction zone and crashed into a passenger car. Apparently, the dump truck struck one car and then a second car, before debris from these two collisions hit a fourth vehicle.
The driver of the car that was first hit by the dump truck had to be flown from the scene with critical injuries. No names have been released in the accident, and police are still investigating.

Commentary:
Accidents where large commercial vehicles like dump trucks are involved in serious accidents near construction zones are actually quite common. There are a few reasons for this, but one of them is because it’s difficult for these large vehicles to stop suddenly. However, drivers can avoid this by paying attention to construction warning signs, making sure they don’t speed or follow too closely to vehicles in front of them, and never driving while distracted.
While the driver in this accident may have done all these things to avoid the accident, it’s important to make sure this is investigated before just assuming it was beyond the driver’s control.
