North Benton, Smith Township, OH – Luke McCrobie and Mary McCartney were injured after a house explosion on Martin Road on December 8, 2015. The accident occurred around 11:45 AM.
According to reports, Luke McCrobie, Mary McCartney, and a Suburban Propane worker were in a home at 9193 Martin Road when a furnace in the basement of the house exploded. The explosion blew the ground level basement French doors completely off their hinges.
Luke McCrobie and Mary McCartney sustained serious injuries as a result of the incident. Luke McCrobie was transported to the Akron Children’s Hospital burn unit for treatment of his injuries. Mary McCartney was taken to St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Youngstown before being transported to Akron Children’s Hospital for treatment of her injuries.
The Suburban Propane worker was not reported injured in the explosion. He was outside the home at the time of the incident.
The police are still investigating the incident. However, they suspect McCartney may have tried to light the furnace while the tank was being refilled with propane gas.
