Omaha, NE — There was a serious accident reported on Tuesday of this week out in west Omaha, several miles from the city. Apparently, a worker was trapped from about the waist down after a trench collapsed at his worksite.
The accident happened around 10:00 a.m. at the location shown on the map below (approximately), along Hampton Road.
The man was apparently part of a construction crew that was building a new home in a developing neighborhood when something went wrong and a side wall for a trench suddenly gave out. Dirt and soil filed the trench and a worker who’s name wasn’t released was trapped inside.
He was able to be rescued a short time later, but he had to be taken to a hospital for his injuries. It’s not clear how deep the trench was and whether any shoring devices were used to stabilize the walls, which OSHA requires workers to use on trenches that are 5 feet or deeper.
