Kathryn Whitmer Injured in Brookville Ambulance Accident

Brookville, KS — Just outside of Brookville this past Tuesday, December 1, there was an accident along Highway 140 that left three people injured. Among them were Jeremiah Brown, 34, who was driving an ambulance, Kathryn Whitmer, 57, a passenger in the ambulance, and Ricky Soukup, 49, a paramedic in the ambulance.

The accident happened when Brown’s ambulance tried to pass a pickup truck on Highway 140, but crashed into the side of it as it started to make a left-hand turn.

Apparently, the ambulance (driven by Brown) was headed east along Highway 140 last Tuesday morning at about 8:45 a.m., driving behind 52-year-old Donald Goddard’s Ford pickup truck.

As Brown tried to pass Goddard’s truck on the left, Goddard started to make a left-hand turn from Highway 140 into a nearby field. The two vehicles collided with each other, pinning Jeremiah Brown inside the cab of the ambulance.

Kathryn Whitmer, a passenger (and possible patient) inside the ambulance was taken to a hospital along with Jeremiah Brown and Ricky Soukup.

Donald Goddard wasn’t harmed.

Update: It appears that Kathryn Goddard’s injuries were not serious, and in fact, one source reported that she didn’t have any at all.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
