Commentary:
My concern with this article is that pedestrians have the right-of-way. If I understand things correctly, they were crossing the road on a green light, and there’s no reason why the bus should’ve turned into their path. All I can think is that the bus either didn’t see them, which is an issue, or they anticipated the pedestrians moving at a quicker pace, but that’s a dangerous gamble.
Drivers that operate vehicles like city buses, schools buses, or other large capacity vehicles should be especially aware of their surroundings. Not only are they responsible for getting their passengers to their destinations safely, but to also maneuver the roadways in a responsible manner. I know the article said that the footage of the wreck is under review. I can only hope that the truth of the situation comes to light. Someone certainly needs to be held responsible for this accident.
