Aaron Menley Injured in Dexter, MO Cotton Truck Accident

Dexter, MO — A woman was badly injured and sent to a hospital via helicopter this past Monday evening (November 9, 2015) outside of Dexter. Police with the MSHP said that Aaron Menley, 37, from Dexter was hurt after her SUV crashed into the back of a cotton module truck.

This happened at about 5:45 p.m. in the evening, at the intersection of U.S. 60 and County Road 657, which is just east of Dexter’s city limits.

The reports say that the cotton module truck (which looks a bit like a semi-truck with a covered trailer) was turning from County Road 657 onto eastbound U.S. 60 that evening when it was rear-ended by Menley’s SUV, which was also headed east.

Later, it was confirmed by the police that the cotton module truck’s rear taillights weren’t working that evening.

Commentary:

With the recent time change, it starts to get dark much earlier in the day. Since this happened well after the sunset, I’m wondering if this woman in the SUV couldn’t see the cotton truck in front of her because the taillights weren’t working.

There clearly aren’t enough details here to start making assumptions, so I want to be careful, but it seems to me that there’s a correlation between the wreck and the taillights being out. Does anyone know if this trucker was cited or charged by the Highway Patrol?

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
