Neosho, MO – Just before 9 p.m. Friday, September 18, 5 people were injured in a 6-car chain-reaction accident on US-60, near Neosho, MO.
According to police reports, Duane Goodgion, 45-years-old, was driving along US-60 when he was unable to stop in time to avoid stopped traffic near a construction site. As a result, Mr. Goodgion’s car apparently triggered a chain-reaction accident that involved 5 other cars. During the course of the accident, Roy and Russell Ruark, 53, and 52, respectively, were seriously injured and taken to Freeman West Hospital in Joplin. Joann Van Roekel, 71, suffered minor injuries and was taken to the same hospital. Allen Janssen, 77, and Phyllis Janssen, 78, each suffered moderate injuries and were taken to Mercy Hospital in Joplin. It appears that Mr. Goodgion was uninjured, despite not wearing a seat belt.
Everyone involved in the accident was reported to have been wearing a seat belt, except Roy and Russell Ruark. There is no word about what may have triggered the accident, such as excessive speed or intoxicants. We also can’t tell if the investigation is ongoing.
