Washington, DC – 3 crew members of a Virginia Rail Express commuter train were injured Thursday, when their train struck a dump truck in a construction zone.
The accident took place around 11:30 a.m. For reasons unknown, the VRE train struck the dump truck. There were no passengers on the train at the time, but 3 crew members appeared to have suffered injuries and were taken to the hospital. It doesn’t appear that anyone was in the dump truck at the time of the accident. There is no update on the severity of the train crew’s injuries or their identities.
VRE train service for the evening rush hour, departing from Union Station was cancelled, while investigators assessed damage to the train, as well as tried to determine what exactly went wrong.
