Seven Students, Two Others Injured in Riviera Beach, FL School Bus Accident

Riviera Beach, FL – Seven students were injured when their bus struck another vehicle in Riviera Beach on Tuesday, September 22nd, 2015.

From what we can tell, the school bus tried to make a right-hand turn to go east on Blue Heron from Australian Avenue when it struck a car on its left-hand side.

Seven students went to the hospital. Their injuries are reported to be minor.

A man and a 4-year-old in the car also went to the hospital.

The driver of a school bus, Michel Zamor, has been cited for careless driving. Zamor had to take a drug and alcohol test after the crash, which is district protocol. The tests came back negative.

Commentary:

The fact that this accident happened, frustrates me. Bus drivers are responsible for getting all the people on their vehicles, be it a city bus or a school bus, from their pickup location to their final destination safely. When that doesn’t happen, we have a problem.

It looks like there were over 50 students on the bus at the time of the accident. And my understanding is, at least two other individuals in the damaged vehicle. That’s a lot of impacted parties. Several of the students were reported to receive minor injuries. But the new doesn’t always get all the facts correct, so we really don’t know what kind of injuries were sustained by the nine people we know were injured.

So if the alcohol test and drug test are correct, what happened here? Was the driver operating on autopilot and just checked out? There’s no mention if it being a rainy day or anything like that. So we have no reason to believe that the roads were slick.

Because, unless there is some unforeseen obstacle that is missing from reports, I see no reason why the accident should’ve happened. It looks a lot like someone not taking responsibility for those under their care and on the road around them.

I hope investigation will be thorough in this accident. People deserve to find out what really happened. And the responsible party should be held accountable for their actions.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
