Benjamin Hill, Anna Regula Injured in Dryden, NY Dump Truck Accident

Dryden, NY — There was an accident reported around 6:00 p.m. this past Tuesday evening (September 15, 2015) that involved a Jeep, a Nissan, and an overturned dump truck. Benjamin Hill, 51, and Anna Regula, 44, were both injured as the driver of the Jeep and Nissan.

The dump truck driver, 36-year-old Kiel Horner, was cited by police for running a stop sign.

They said that this accident happened when Horner’s dump truck ran a stop sign at the intersection of Dryden Road and Johnson Road, where it caused a collision with Regula’s Nissan and Hill’s Jeep.

Both Hill and Regula were sent to the hospital and their vehicles were not drivable after the wreck. However, it doesn’t look like the injuries are serious.

Horner, who was hauling dirt in his dump truck, is now facing charges.

Commentary:

I would be interested in learning a little more about what caused this accident because it seems like this dump truck driver didn’t exactly make the best decision and could have really caused some serious injury or even death here. My main concern, though, is that there might be something more going than what we’re seeing in the news. Why did this dump truck run the stop sign? Did the driver just not see the other cars coming? Was he not paying attention to the road?

If not, then why? This seems like an awfully preventable accident and I’m wondering if there are reason for this driver running the stop sign beyond what the news was able to recover. For example, perhaps he was fatigued behind the wheel. Obviously, that information simply isn’t being released right now, so I don’t want to sit here and speculate. However, I do want to warn my readers about being too nonchalant about these kinds of wrecks.

The best way to prevent them from happening to other people in the future is to nip the negligence in the bud, as it were, and address what really caused the accident.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
