Update 9/29: While still in the hospital, it is being reported that Mr. Berggren and Mr. Sill have been upgraded to stable condition.
Newfield, NY – Bradley Berggren, 34, Sean Redman, 24, and Johnny Sill, 65, were injured in a workplace accident Wednesday morning, near a bridge repair on Bower Rd., in Newfield, NY.
The accident happened shortly after 11 a.m., when a fork truck, operated by Mr. Redman, apparently lost power, cutting off Redman’s ability to control steering and braking. The vehicle gathered speed down a hill, where it crashed into a dump truck, knocking both vehicles into a pit at the site.
Mr. Berggren, also working on the job, was critically injured and airlifted to Robert Packer Hospital. He was joined there by Mr. Sill, who although not a worker, was apparently at the site and also critically injured in the accident. Mr. Redman suffered supposedly minor injuries and was taken to a hospital. As of Thursday morning, Mr. Berggren and Mr. Sill are said to be in critical condition.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing. There is no speculation at this time as to what caused the catastrophic power failure in the lift truck. There is also no mention of who employed Mr. Berggren and Mr. Redman.
