Dix Hills, NY — There was an accident along the Vanderbilt Parkway this past Tuesday night (September 8, 2015) that left two women injured and a man from Brentwood facing charges. Police said that two women in a Nissan Maxima were both injured when an oncoming Toyota swerved into their lane on Vanderbilt and caused a head-on accident.
The driver who lost control and swerved into oncoming traffic was identified as Brentwood resident Bernabe Ortegavela, 50 years old.
The accident happened when Ortegavela was headed east on Vanderbilt Parkway in his Toyota that evening and swerved into the westbound lanes, colliding head-on with a Nissan Maxima that was carrying two women.
The impact caused the Nissan to be forced off the road, where it collided with some trees. Ortegavela’s Toyota went off the road as well, hitting a pole.
After paramedics took the women to a hospital for their injuries, they said that Ortegavela was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol. He has since been charged.
