Portland, MO – In the early morning hours on Labor Day, James Volkerding, 35, Jessica Schleicher, 36, Christina McDonald, 30, Jadelyn Weed, 20, and James Martin-Lucas, 20, were seriously injured in a 2-car accident in Portland, MO.
According to authorities, the accident occurred on Hwy 94, roughly a quarter mile east of County Road 466, shortly after 2 a.m. Mr. Martin-Lucas, driving a 1994 Chevy Van, failed to negotiate a curve in the road and crossed into the other lane where he struck Mr. Volkerding’s 2010 Chevy Malibu head-on. As a result, both drivers and 3 passengers were seriously injured.
Mr. Martin-Lucas was the most seriously injured and airlifted to University Hospital. Everyone else was transported to University Hospital by ambulance, including Mr. Martin-Lucas’ passenger, Ms. Weed, as well as Mr. Volkerding and his two passengers, Ms. Schleicher, and Ms. McDonald. Accident reports indicate that Ms. Weed and Ms. Schleicher were not wearing seat belts.
There is no word at this time whether an investigation is being conducted into the accident, or weather any citations will be issued, or charges pressed. There is also no word on the condition of the injured.
