Maud, Texas — The driver of a Jeep was taken to a hospital after an accident on Thursday, September 10, after it was hit by a log truck. According to the news reports, a logging truck may have pulled out in front of the Jeep along U.S.
This happened on Thursday, at the intersection of County Road 4128 and U.S. 67.
According to the news reports, the logging truck was driving north on County Road 4128 when it tried to cross over U.S. 67. However, the trucker apparently didn’t see the westbound Jeep and it hit the back of the trailer.
The driver of the Jeep (who wasn’t named) was rushed to a hospital while the trucker (who wasn’t injured) received a “failure to yield” charge.

Commentary:
Update: It appears that fog was a factor here as well. I’d like to point out that what I say below is still true; foggy weather doesn’t excuse someone from making poor decisions.
It looks to me like this log truck failed to yield, which is a big problem. Aside from the obvious issue of violating a traffic law (which exist for the sole purpose of preventing accidents like this from happening, it seems like this trucker just wasn’t paying attention to the road. Or, he forgot how long it takes a big log truck to clear an intersection and took a risk that didn’t turn out so well.
In all seriousness, though, this accident is a bit worrisome because at the very least, it suggests that this trucker wasn’t doing his job correctly. That kind of thing gets people killed, and there’s no getting around the fact that someone needs to be answerable for what happened. Otherwise, there’s no reason to have traffic laws if they’re not going to have consquences. And I’m not just talking about a citation, I’m talking about the trucker (or the company who owned the truck) making things right.
