Lincolnville, ME — A man trying to work on a broken-down refrigerator was badly injured and burned after the appliance exploded. This happened in Lincolnville on Sunday, August 30, and the victim was identified as 29-year old Kergan Thomann.
According to the news reports, Thomann was working in a camper trailer that Sunday afternoon around 12:00 p.m.
He was performing some kind of maintenance on a gas-powered refrigerator when something went wrong and the refrigerator (or part of it) exploded. The man was badly injured and was flown to Portland as soon as the paramedics arrived.
More details about what happened will hopefully be released later. It’s not clear if Thomann owned the camper trailer or not.

Commentary:
What exactly caused this refrigerator to explode that day? Was it a faulty product? This is concerning because there’s always some degree of risk present when you decide to do maintenance yourself, especially with anything gas-powered. But explosions typically happen because something accidentally ignited or something over-heated. Hopefully, it wasn’t a malfunction that caused this, because if it was, the manufacturer would need to be notified so that nobody else gets hurt in the future.
