Michelle Graves Injured in Schuyler, NE 18-Wheeler Collision

Schuyler, NE – Michelle Graves is in critical condition following an accident involving a tractor-trailer truck in Schuyler on Thursday, August 27th, 2015. The incident occurred about 2:30 am.

It looks like a westbound 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee collided head-on with an eastbound 18-wheeler for reasons not yet known. The collision happened just east of Schuyler. Both vehicles landed in a ditch as a result of the accident.

The truck driver told authorities that the SUV crossed over the centerline and entered the eastbound lane, causing the 18-wheeler to drive into the westbound lane to avoid the vehicle. The vehicles collided after the SUV swerved back into the proper lane.

John Edward Wyant Jr. was driving the 2015 International owned by Florida-based Armellini Express Lines Inc. at the time of the accident. He and his passenger were uninjured.

Michelle Graves was taken to an nearby hospital for treatment of her injuries. She is in critical condition.

Investigation is ongoing. At this time, alcohol has not been ruled out as a possible contributing factor.

Commentary:

I know we don’t seem to have all the details yet on what happened here, but something about this accident bothers me. From the information we have, it looks like the 18-wheeler crossed over into the lane of the SUV causing the accident. Now, the truck driver claims that the SUV swerved into his lane, according to one news source. To me, we only have one side of the story. That’s reason enough to make sure a thorough investigation is done to look into what really happened here.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
