Greenville, SC — There was a worker who died in late July after falling about 30 feet from a construction site in Greenville. The worker was identified as 44-year old Ascencion Medina, who was a local resident, and the initial reports are indicating that this may have been related to his safety harness failing.
The accident happened on Thursday, July 30, at a building under construction at Stone & Main.
Ascencion Medina was working on the fourth floor of the building and reportedly did have his harness when something went wrong while he was moving locations.
He fell about 30 feet and was immediately rushed to a hospital, where he later passed away.
Right now, it looks like OSHA is investigating. The police said that they are looking into whether Medina had perhaps taken his harness off at the time of the accident.

Commentary:
If this worker removed his own harness that afternoon, then that’s one thing. But some of the concerns I was reading about included whether the worker had a defective safety harness. Obviously, there are more questions than answers at this point, but that’s something that would involve the manufacturer of the harness more than anything else. At the end of the day, if a worker relied on their product for safety and it failed or malfunctioned, then that’s something they need to be held accountable for.
