Johnston, RI — A semi-truck driver from West Virginia, 59-year old Martinsburg resident Dwight Greenleaf, passed away early Thursday morning this week after his truck was in an accident in Johnston. This happened on I-295 at about 6:30 a.m. in the morning, the State Police reported.
Dwight Greenleaf had been driving his semi-truck south along I-295 that morning and was nearing Exit 4, near the city limits, when he may have suffered a medical emergency.
His truck drifted off the side of the interstate and into a wooded area, where it crashed into a tree. The impact left Greenleaf with injuries and though he was able to get out of his truck without assistance, he then fell unconscious.
Paramedics were called and he was taken to a nearby hospital, but he died.
The cause of the accident isn’t clear yet, but the State Police think that it was due to a medical condition or emergency.
