Four Hospitalized after Family Car Hit by Driver on Lake-Cook Road in Deer Park

Deer Park, IL — A driver was reportedly fleeing another wreck in Deer Park when he crashed into a family of four in a Honda, injuring the family and himself. This happened on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 along Lake-Cook Road in Deer Park, the police said.

At about 11:15, a driver in a Lexus was involved in a wreck at the intersection of Rand Road and Lake-Cook Road. The driver, a 26-year old Northfield man, apparently decided to flee the scene.

The Lexus took off along eastbound Lake-Cook Road and quickly lost control, swerving into the westbound lanes and hitting an oncoming Honda.

The man driving the Honda, a 36 year old Crystal Lake resident, and his wife and two children (ages 3 and 6) were all taken to a local hospital for their injuries. The Lexus’ driver, the 26-year old man, was also hurt and taken to a hospital as well. From the latest news report, it seems like he was in more serious condition than those in the Honda.

The police arrived at the scene a short time later and said that the driver may face charges for hit-and-run for the first accident and possibly charges for the second one as well.

No names are being released.

Commentary:

Drivers flee scene of an accident for two main reasons:

  1. They are scared and run out of genuine shock and surprise.
  2. They are trying to avoid police contact for some reason.

Those aren’t the only reasons, but they tend to be the most common. I wonder why this driver decided the flee the first wreck? Hopefully, the police will release some more details later. As it stands now, I wouldn’t be surprised if this driver had claims filed against him by both of the other drivers he hit.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
